But the wisdom of God sees all the possibilities of a favourable effect for the soul of man; and so a will opposed to God can unintentionally contribute to the spiritual ascent of a soul, only that then this ascent is not attributed to the wrong will of man, but he must answer God for this wrong will, although a certain blessing has grown out of it in another way. Freedom of will.

24. April 1950. B.D. NR. 4884.

The freedom of will is explanation for everything, what seems incomprehensible to man and what lets him doubt the nature of God. The still imperfect man often uses his will so wrongly, but God then does not prevent him to carry out that, what his free will intends, and consequently gives so to speak his agreement, i.e., he tolerates, what man carries out in his imperfection. But he does not approve of it, even so he does not stop man to do it. (25.4.1950) If man possesses freedom of will, then he must be able to affect his wanting and acting down as also up, because a freedom eliminates every restriction. But man has been created with free will, because it is decisive for eternity, for life of the soul after death. Free will of man creates for his soul the state in the spiritual kingdom. The will of God will always be a moving in divine order, an adaptation to his law, which was enacted in highest perfection, in wisdom and love, so that the creatures of God live in accordance with these laws and can therefore develop to perfect beings. But in exactly the same way they must be able to contravene these divine laws by virtue of their free will, because God confronts them with the decision. In no way does he influence man against his will, but even adapts himself to his will, by him not turning away or taking the power away from man, so he directs his will wrongly and would like to carry out something, what completely contradicts the will of God. Then he therefore does not take his power away, but adapts his will to the will of man. And for that reason things happen, which do not accord with the eternal divinity, but by his wisdom also then every event is so taken into consideration in its effect, that also they can favour the ascent development of the human soul. (27.4.1950) God does not touch the free will of man; consequently he must also give him the opportunity, to express himself and to be able to carry it out. And this always means a supply of power to works, which not necessarily agree with the will of God. But the wisdom of God sees all the possibilities of a favourable effect for the soul of man; and so a will opposed to God can unintentionally contribute to the spiritual ascent of a soul, only that then this ascent is not attributed to the wrong will of man, but he must answer God for this wrong will, although a certain blessing has grown out of it in another way. God directs all fates; he gives freedom of will to his creatures in the stage as man; they will always be able to decide for the good and are never compelled to acts adverse to God, but as their will is, so is also their thinking and acting, and accordingly will also be their lot in the hereafter and the degree of perfection, which arises from the work in earth life.
