Just mere 28.9 per cent of Germans still belong to the Protestants. 1950 half of the citizens of the federation were Protestant.

Just mere 30.3 per cent of Germans are still Roman-Catholic. Almost 180,000 women and men have left the Catholic Church 2013 – 50 per cent more than the year before. Read more:

I bring extracts from an article:

Church resignations

The churches in Germany bleed to death

Both denominations react to church resignations: we do not care. Then the problems are known: The spirit of the age is stronger than church dogmas. When finally do the heads find the right way?

Many churches in Germany stand empty

The churches bleed to death. And already for a considerable time. Just mere 30.3 per cent of Germans are still Roman-Catholic. People’s church is out of the question: The number without denomination is about 36.6 per cent.

For the believers this is a sad trend, which the current resignation numbers confirm, which the Catholic bishops conference recently announced: Almost 180,000 women and men have left the Catholic Church 2013 – 50 per cent more than the year before. In the diocese Limburg the resignations even increased by 80 per cent. No accident. Here Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst had caused headlines with first class flights at the expense of the church and a building project devouring 30 million Euro.

Pope Francis had relieved him of his office. The annoyance remained, the new scandal, which once again questioned the credibility of the church, burned into the awareness of the already outraged church members, who asked themselves already for a long time what for they actually still pay church tax.

But also about the communion of the Protestants things are not going well. The numbers for 2013 are not yet available. 2012 there were almost 140,000 women and men who resigned from the membership of Protestant church. Just mere 28.9 per cent of Germans still belong to it. 1950 half of the citizens of the federation were Protestant.

Many can no longer believe

That is not easy. We are so enlightened. Who nevertheless believes that there is still something else than that what he can see and touch, must expect to be met with a pitying smile. It is difficult to approach the increasing large number of those who simply can no longer believe. Hopeless?

A church in which women and men still have no equal rights misses the reality just as the double moral of a sex codex, which propagates celibacy on one hand and tolerates the abuse of countless children and youths behind the walls of church institutions.

But also a Protestant Church, which is so liberal that it is already sometimes of no importance and so de-spiritualized that it hardly dares to speak about faith, has no future.
