When he arrived in the Mira hotel he had four laptops with him, but most of the documents were already copied on sticks. This thing with the four laptops amazed me then. Now I work myself with three. One was never in the internet. One for coded chats. And one normal one. Read more:

Today I read some details about Edward Snowden I think they are worth knowing.

Here some extracts from an article:

Snowden leaks.

"He will remain in Russia for a long time"

Ewen MacAskill, one of the first reporters who met Edward Snowden, about private sphere, mass surveillance and the US constitution.

Mr. MacAskill, one year ago you met Edward Snowden in his hotel room in London. You as defence expert of the Guardian were the third man next to the Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald and the documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras. How did you experience Snowden then?

He always felt happiest when he spoke about IT questions, about computers, about NSA programs. That world interests him. In that world he lives. As soon as it was about politics or personal things it was clearly less pleasant for him.

Snowden seems to have meticulously prepared the handing over of the material.

Already the first load of documents, which he gave Glen and Laura before the first meeting, was extremely well organized. He had thought over what the stories could be and has ordered them accordingly in different files. Verizon, Prism, cyber security. The relationship of NSA and internet companies.

He obviously tried to think like a journalist.

When he arrived in the Mira hotel he had four laptops with him, but most of the documents were already copied on sticks. This thing with the four laptops amazed me then. Now I work myself with three. One was never in the internet. One for coded chats. And one normal one.

You then interviewed Snowden in the hotel for several hours.

He was incredibly calm. He was never agitated. All answers were extremely thought over.

You are still in contact with Snowden. Most different negotiations about his future are running at the moment. What is to become of him?

He will probably have to remain in Russia for a very long time. There are few places in the world, which can withstand the pressure of the USA. There was actually only China and Russia. Ecuador, Venezuela, Island, all these countries cannot really protect him. Snowden never wanted to go to Russia; he very much more wanted to be in West Europe or in Germany where a large part of the public supports him. He should like it best of all again in the USA, as a free man.
