Here extracts from an interview:

Internet surveillance

The Swiss data protection representative Hanspeter Thür is not surprised of the internet surveillance through the USA. He observes a movement which defends itself against the virtual self-exposure.

Interview.

Who threatens the private sphere more: States or concerns?

Regarding this, one cannot distinguish between the two. Many people do not now that it is possible to identify a person pretty well with little public available information.

Are there states, which keep the internet under surveillance to a similar extent as the USA?

I cannot imagine that there is a state which does not make use of these possibilities.

You give the advice to well consider in which social networks one wants to participate. But in future will not he make himself suspicious who does not take part?

We are not yet so far. Though: Such tendencies are recognizable. So today one has to justify oneself when one wants to pay a higher amount in cash instead of with a credit card; over the credit card the consumer behaviour is reproducible. But I also hear again and again of people who want to opt out of the social networks.
