Explosive claims late last week by a senior Australian police officer that the Catholic Church covered up evidence of paedophilia by priests. Read more:

Three days ago we had the report 2012 Nov 12 (3) Politicians have church in sight and here now excerpts from another report about this:

Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Wednesday slammed the use of the confessional to avoid reporting abuse, saying it is a "sin of omission" and all adults have a duty to protect children.

She announced this week the launch of a Royal Commission to investigate offences involving religious and non-religious organisations and insisted it will examine not only abuse but the role of institutions in covering it up.

But a growing number of Australian politicians of all persuasions including several prominent Catholics have called for priests to break the seal and report child abuse to police.

The commission was established following explosive claims late last week by a senior Australian police officer that the Catholic Church covered up evidence of paedophilia by priests.

To avoid reporting of abuse is of course bad, but worse is to not avoid abuse, and what is urgently needed, is stopping abuse.

There are hardly any indications, worldwide, that abuse has stopped. Establishing a commission is of course good and helps but what is really needed is to take action and stop the abuse itself.

When people fly two passenger jets into two high rise office buildings and cause them to collapse and many people get killed, then it would of course be a very nice idea to establish a commission. It would of course be going over the top to now use this incident to speak badly about the organizers of this crime or even threaten them with some court actions. And when one would go even so far to put these guys in jail then such action would prevent them of carrying on their crimes and that would just be too bad. Thousands of people got killed by terrorists and that was terrible, but thousands of children get raped all over the world and that not once but every day. And everyone just behaves as if nothing is happening. It happens for two thousand year, so we are used to it.

What do you do with a terrorist organisation? You ban it, you put the guys in jail, and you seize all their belongings.

But politicians only do that when the populace is also for it. If not, then you have to wait.
