"We should above all also not be afraid as Christians to stand up for our faith." Read more:

Tomorrow the Americans elect a president. During his four years in office the present president was eager to claim to be a Christian and if he is Antichrist then a change will occur. Merkel’s politics were most of the time not in agreement with the ones of Obama. She seemed to always keep a distance to him. So it will be interesting to see how the future develops between the two. Will also Merkel give up her faith?

Here a couple of excerpts from an article I read today:

Confession in videoblog

Angela Merkel believes in God

In her videoblog the Chancellor also explains her religion.

Formerly religion was regarded for Merkel as private matter. Now she has professed a confession of faith in her videoblog. Somewhat matter-of-fact, but still. After all she is the boss of the Christian Democratic Union.

Merkel biographer Volker Resing … portrays the chancellor as "Protestant Prussian" who has been shaped more intensively by the parental vicarage and Christian faith than for instance through her physics studies and scientific thinking.

And she herself proves to be more well-versed in the Scriptures than most of the federal chancellors before her.

"I am a member of the Evangelical Church. I believe in God, and the religion has also been my constant companion – actually in my entire life." A higher dose of emphasis is hardly to be obtained from the politician Merkel.

"We should above all also not be afraid as Christians to stand up for our faith."

Because Christian custom is no longer common, preaching of the church must become simpler, more elementary, closer to the basis, says the chancellor.
