Today I read reports about preparations to 500 years of Reformation. Here excerpts:

500 Years Reformation

Protestants talk about Luther – and not about God

At an event in Berlin prominent figures met with ministers and gave reports about the reformation. A lot mounted up there – but faith remained out of it.

The invitation had come from the top of the Evangelic Church in Germany (EKD), from the chairman of the council Nikolaus Schneider and the president of the synod Katrin Göring-Eckardt. Most of the state bishops appeared, … as well as a lot of senior church councillors.

They all set in the Berlin Elisabeth Church on Sunday evening. And listened to what prominent figures … said about their expectations for the reformation jubilee 2017 for the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s thesis notice in the year 1517.

Jesus remained unmentioned

A lot mounted up there. But that evening there was never talk of Luther’s central and all deciding matter of concern – the question for the justification of man through God’s favour. Hardly once was the word "God" heard at all. And "Jesus Christ" occurred, when memory is not wrong, not one single time.

The evangelical theologian Stephan Schaede criticized that in his church the central message is getting more and more obscured: God must be remembered as person with a biography.

Stephan Schaede (49), is in charge of the Evangelical Academy Loccum in Lower Saxony, one of the most important intellectual centres in German Protestantism.

It is still five years until the great jubilee of the Protestants: 2017 it is 500 years ago that the reformation began through the publication of Martin Luther’s 95 theses against church indulgence trade in the year 1517. But the reformation jubilee gives difficulties to the Evangelic. Not only because they do not really know how to bring Luther’s central message of the justification of sinful man through divine favour close to the citizen in a time in which the East German core region of Protestantism more and more de-churches. Also many evangelical Christians themselves find it rather hard to speak of God openly and in union with the biblical tradition.

But why do speak Protestants so little about this personal God?

One reason for this is the wide spread opinion that for the announcing it is decisive what allegedly is accepted by so-called normal men. In the opinion men would no longer be able what to make of the personal God, one rather speaks at once nothing at all about him. The fatal thing with this is: Also this leads to a bad clericalisation of the evangelical pastoral office.

Why?

When the supposed people religiosity with God as power becomes the measure of all preaching then one acts as if on the one hand this popular faith exists and on the other hand a separate theologian caste, which, as grail guardians of the tradition, is responsible for the academic imagination of God as a person. But the assembly keeps its distance to this. This distinction between layman and theologian faith is non-evangelical. We Protestants do not separate between faith of the laymen and that of the pastor.

Therefore finally speaking again of this personal God?

I have the impression in the churches rules a considerable communication deficit regarding God. It pays to chat about the biography of God, which the Bible unfolds.

The new religion, which followed the reformation, the evangelical religion, as well as also the old religion, the Catholic religion, have very little to do with the preaching of Jesus Christ and the preaching about God. These two religions, as well as also all the others, are just a new paganism, which aims at a veiling of divine things, a falsifying of divine things, and that is why those who are in charge there are the servants of Satan, and those who go there and seek God are deceived. This may sound quite exaggerated but have a look at the following:
2012 Jul 08 – Servants of Satan and also
Meditate
where the letter of Paul to the assembly in Laodicea is discussed, in which Paul describes these religions as the new paganism.
