The president decides personally who is to be killed, mostly by means of unmanned aircrafts (“drones”). Read more:

Here a couple of parts form an article I read today:

Anti-terror war of the USA: Collateral damage of a macho

Barack Obama has arrogated more power than the constitution of the USA permits.

That the conventions of war and international law are distorted to the limit beyond recognition in the process, has caused the highest UN official specialized for these question to address a question.

The actions are meant for supposed terrorists whose activities could endanger the security of the USA. But the data delivered by means of evaluation of photos, intercepted telephone calls and data supplied locally by spies represent no proofs – not mostly at least -, but only circumstantial evidence. On this basis the president decides personally who is to be killed, mostly by means of unmanned aircrafts (“drones”).

The court proceedings are now replaced through internal consultation – in the circle of the prosecutors who have prepared the data, together with the president who pronounces sentence, without defence or just counsel.

The president is prosecutor and judge; the separation of powers, the heart of all democratic order, is abolished. So also with the specific killing of the radical preacher Awlaki, a US citizen living in Jemen.

And another kind of war obviously gets through unopposed, the cyber war. Computer viruses like Stuxnet and Flame, deployed against the suspected civil nuclear installations of Iran, are weapons.

Barack Obama, who consciously takes on the responsibility, is a highly qualified jurist. Bad enough. But what is, the intellectual paper The New Yorker asks, when a villain becomes his successor?
