Today, on the 20th of March 2010, I again read an article about the abuse scandal and some excerpts from it follow now:

Confrontation in Church Service About Previously Convicted Priest

In Bad Tölz (Bavaria) it came to a confrontation. Members of the parish had heard from the media that their priest is a previously convicted sexual offender and a repeat offender covered up by the Catholic Church. When there were euphemistic words during mass about the acts of the priest, they let out their anger.

The deacon of the Bavarian parish Bad Tölz, Gerhard Neubauer, Priest Rupert Frania and deacon George Papp condemn the acts of their colleague Peter H. who was previously convicted for sexual abuse.

The Sunday service in the Bavarian Bad Tölz seethed with emotions. The priest Peter H. was not there to say mass in the Franciscan church - and all parishioners knew why: Previously it had become known that the now 62 years old servant of God had abused minors in the eighties. And that the Catholic Church had again and again appointed him as pastor despite the knowledge about it. That writes the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ).

His stand-in, the priest Rupert Frania, did not fail to mention the subject abuse and assault and battery in his Sunday sermon: "At the moment it is listed a little bid one-sided", he said according to the "SZ". And with it referred to the media and their church criticism.

But the people in the house of God, who not until now know about the criminal past of their priest, had obviously hoped for something else than nothing but further excuses. "I cannot hear that. You no longer can sidetrack now after all", a man at the beginning of 30 interrupted.

To underscore his rage, he stood up and declared: The Tölz priest should soon have married him and his girlfriend. It is a shock that he now has to hear from the media that his priest is a convicted abuse offender. Some believers left the Sunday mass out of protest against the priest according to the "SZ".

The first time that the priest H. assaulted a child under age, was at the end of the 1970ties. He then still worked in Essen. The bishopric there had heard about it 1979 and as a result asked the Munich arch bishopric to receive the chaplain.

Actually H. was supposed to make a therapy in South Germany. Instead he again took up office, first in a Munich rectory, then in Grafing. There he again abused children between 1982 and 1985, for which he eventually was sentenced - to a suspended sentence of 18 months, according to the "SZ".

Again the arch bishopric appointed H., in the parish association of Graching an der Alz, in Engelsberg and 2008 eventually in Bad Tölz.

Pope Benedict XVI was, as Joseph Ratzinger, archbishop of Munich and Freising from 1977 until November 1981. "The council of the chair, to which also Ratzinger belonged, decided that the chaplain could come for therapy to Munich and could live in a parsonage during this time," writes the "SZ".

According to the files of the archbishopric the paedophile priest worked almost immediately after the incident again in a rectory in Munich. After examination of records of the case the archbishopric Munich already conceded serious mistakes with the "SZ".

But in Bad Tölz people are now upset that the bishopric furthermore comes to the defence of priest H.
